Eligible expiring or expired Canadian post-graduation work permit holders can soon extend work permits

On March 17, 2023, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirmed a new temporary policy to extend the post-graduation work permits (PGWPs).

The extension can be up to 18 months, and the policy will take effect starting April 6, 2023.

Eligible foreign nationals are either of

  • those whose PGWPs have expired in 2023, or
  • those who qualified for a similar PGWP extension scheme released in 2022.

Also, those whose work permits have expired for over 90 days can restore their statuses.

Furthermore, while new permits are under process, applicants can work.
