International students’ economic contributions to Canada

Not only do international students support the Canadian education system, but they also benefit the Canadian economy significantly, per Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

In 2018, international students contributed over 21 billion Canadian dollars to the local economy through tuition payments and regular spending on necessities, leisure, and others. And this national revenue – worth more than the Canadian export values of auto parts, lumber, or aircraft – created nearly 170,000 jobs for the middle class in Canada.
