National Occupational Classification 2021 to take effect in Canadian immigration in late 2022

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been using the National Occupational Classification (NOC) to identify applicants’ jobs in its immigration system.

IRCC presently uses the 2016 version of NOC, but starting from late 2022, IRCC will use a new one – the 2021 version.

Compared with NOC 2016, NOC 2021 has at least three new features:

  • A structure based on Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities
  • A five-tiered hierarchy of groups of jobs
  • A five-digit codification for each job
