Nearly two in three recent newcomers in Canada born in Asia

Statistics Canada recently released the statistical status of the immigrant population from the 2021 census.

Here are some highlights:

  • Almost 25% of residents in Canada are immigrants.
  • Nearly 65% of recent immigrants were born in Asia (including the Middle East).
  • Close to 20% of recent newcomers were born in India.
  • Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary have the highest ratios of immigrants.
