Over 90% of residents in Canada are Canadian citizens

Statistics Canada recently released the citizenship status of the immigrant population from the 2021 census.

Here were some highlights in 2021:

  • More than 9 in 10 residents living in Canada were Canadian citizens.
  • Immigrants who were not Canadian citizens were younger than Canadian citizens on average.
  • More established immigrants than recent immigrants were naturalized to become Canadian citizens.
