Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced updates regarding the temporary resident to permanent resident pathway – a temporary public policy issued in 2021. The updated measures will become effective this summer.
According to the announcement, applicants waiting for application decisions can be outside Canada. If they have applied for open work permits, the permits they receive will be valid till the end of 2024. Their eligible immediate family members can apply for work permits, too.
The HMC team holds that these timely supplementary measures can help relieve applicants’ anxiety – while their permanent residence applications are under processing – and ensure they keep their valid immigration statuses to work and stay in Canada.
