According to a report released in March 2022 by Statistics Canada, the national statistical office of Canada, the number of international students who held Canadian study permits as of December 31, 2021, reached 621,200.
It represents an increase of more than 17 percent over that of 2020. The numbers of Canadian study permit holders in the recent three years are as follows:
- 2021 – 621,600
- 2020 – 528,200
- 2019 – 638,300
Overall, the data on Canada’s international students have shown a steadily upward trend for the last two decades.
