The Canadian governmental report – Building on Success: International Education Strategy 2019-2024 – sheds light on the international education industry in Canada as follows.
Four types of programs international students come to Canada to study are:
- language education – English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FSL)
- elementary and secondary school (K-12) education
- college education
- university education

It is worth noting that the number of international students studying in colleges surpassed that of international students at universities in 2018.
Over half of international students in Canada in 2018 came from two countries – India and China.

Most international students chose the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec as their study destinations in 2017.
