Canada has the largest share of post-secondary graduates among the G7

Statistics Canada recently released census data about the educational levels of the Canadian workforce.

Here are the highlights:

  • People in Canada with college or university qualifications accounted for nearly 58%, higher than those of other G7 countries – the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, and Japan.
  • The proportion of people in Canada with a bachelor’s degree or higher grew by about 4% from 2016 to 2021.
  • Provinces of British Columbia and Ontario experienced the biggest jumps in percentage points from 2016 to 2021 regarding their shares of the population who held degrees.
