Canadian post-graduation work permits temporarily extendable this summer

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced a new temporary policy to extend the validity periods of post-graduation work permits (PGWPs). The new policy is to take effect this summer.

It will enable graduates in Canada with expiring PGWPs to apply for open work permits of up to 18 months; expiry dates of the applicable PGWPs should be within 2022; more details will become available soon, per IRCC.

The HMC team believes that the new policy can benefit international graduates keen to remain in Canada by facilitating them to qualify for and gain permanent residency in the long run.
